sunday morning tableau

I looked out the back door a bit ago and saw a huge crow fly from the ground up to a fence post. It was so shiny and black in the sunshine, and Salina happened to be standing nearby having a morning sunbath, so the black of horse and bird was very striking and held my attention. I was trying to figure out if I could possibly get a picture without alarming the crow.

Off to the side, I noticed the donkeys were walking around in an odd zigzag way, noses low to the ground, and upon closer inspection, there was a small flock of birds running hither and yonder, and the donkeys were following them, perfectly mimicking the erratic path of birds skittering along, not threatened enough to fly, but not wanting donkey noses nudging them.

It sounds like an interesting morning with birds. My guess is that you weren't able to get a picture of Salina and the crow or it would be posted. I'm imagining that shot would have been dramatic if there were still snow on the ground, but then you're lucky enough not to be surrounded by the white stuff. Have a great day.

The connection between horses and birds has always fascinated me. When I used to board Silk at a barn where there were chickens, some horses used to let them roost on their backs while they slept. The sight of a horse standing there with a couple of chickens sitting on it always made me laugh.

No picture must mean you couldn't capture it. Seems like that's what usually happens to me. There are far more scenarios I wish I'd captured than I ever get. LOL

Arlene, it would have been a striking snow shot, but there was something even more so about the black and the golden sunshine this morning.

Alas, I didn't even try to get a photo, for fear of missing something. And I would have missed those donkeys and birds skittering around.

I can't imagine chickens sitting on horses! What a sight.

MiKael, it's true - but I guess we do get to see them, even if we don't get to share them.

Yes, that's so true. It's just the older I get the more I regret those pictures not taken because my memory can't hold them all.

I have gotten so I focus on the moments of seeing these little gems, without worrying about capturing them or even remembering them. It's been a shift from wanting to capture every special thing and remember it forever.

Trusting that there will be more to come.
