the rest of the birthday

Redford's birthday cast a magical spell on November Hill this afternoon. While I was riding Keil Bay, we were doing some very focused, good work, and all of a sudden I looked up and there was a colony of at least 20 vultures pinwheeling overhead like a kaleidoscope, quite low, as if they were dancing with the Big Bay and me.

After our ride, I went in the back field in search of donkeys and some birthday photos. The magic continued!

Redford played peek-a-boo, and then someone joined the party:

Then the two love buns decided they would pose for me. Look at the handsome boys! They are absolutely amazing. Happy Birthday, Redford! Rafer is fine with the fact that he has a second birthday coming up mid-summer, and we will celebrate again.

Happy Birthday to a happy little donkey. You can see in the photos how much Redford loves everyone and feels safe at home.

Thanks, Arlene. I had a blast taking these. I think the two of them had planned all day what they were going to do - it was like a well-organized photo shoot!

Thanks, Victoria. He is even bolder than Rafer in many ways, and they keep us laughing with their antics.

Happy Birthday Redford!!

When you wrote about the vultures, I was at first terrified that something awful had happened to one of your critters. Vultures don't usually circle unless there's carrion to eat.

That last photo could be on a greeting card. They just make me smile from big ear to big ear! :D

I just love this series!

Lisa, the black vultures here circle and wheel about all the time - I've read someplace it's almost like play for them.

I was pretty happy with the photos!

Billie, I'm late getting here but the wishes are the warmest I can send from this permanent ice box. ONE year old - how did that happen? Redford is changing so much; in the last photo he is standing tall(showing excellent posture) and looking extremely serious. There are great things ahead in this young man's future. He has very human looking eyes - and I mean that in the best possible way. If he suddenly said something eloquent I wouldn't be at allsurprised. I am so glad your two boys found each other through you. I sent my woman out and she came back with a mini mule...

Sheaffer, we know you too have a birthday coming up, so we were excited to get the party started. I propose we have ongoing donkey parties from now until July, when Rafer turns 2!

I am sitting here laughing all the way down in my belly at your last line.

BUT - we must give the woman her credit. When the little mini-mule didn't fit well with your haven there, she DID go out and come back with a treasure in Jack!

I hope little TJ finds his own special place soon.
