relief and a magic moment

Just wanted to update that last night, while I was working with a client in the arena, Salina's abscess burst. I found her grazing with all four feet weighted evenly, enjoying the dusk with her donkeys.

Good energy + brilliant mare + Animalintex poultice x right homeopathic remedy = RELIEF

Onward to a streak of 61 degree lows - the horses have been running around more as the days aren't so hot and the nights are bringing a distinct feeling of autumn. We can see the light at the end of the long, hot summer!

After breakfast tubs this morning I noticed Redford was in the arena attending to something in the back field. I walked out to see what it was, and it was a lovely turtle. The turtle was on the other side of the back gate, and he and Redford were staring at one another.

I suspect this turtle is a relative of the one whose empty shell we found the day we first looked at this farm. Between the empty turtle shell, which we asked to keep and were told yes by the owners, and the twin fawns that leapt through the back field, we could barely wait to get out of the driveway to make an offer.

It's nice after a long hot few weeks to feel the circle of life here - reminding me that seasons circle 'round and we'll soon be looking at different colors, smelling different smells, and enjoying the joys of autumn.

Good to hear the abscess burst, Salina must be so much more comfortable now. I like turtles and I'll bet your turtle shell was one of this turtles ancestors, how interesting that you kept the shell.

We're a little cooler here too, can't wait to ride this weekend. Actually, I can hardly wait until it cycles around to Autumn this year, it's my favorite season. I'm hoping to get a lot of good rides and enjoy the brilliant colors.

Billie, what a relief for Salina and everyone else. I can just picture Rafer and the turtle studying and communing with each other - a perfect match of minds. No mad rushing about and interrupting each other, just lots of silent communication. Very civilized.

Kate, it's so nice to see the offending foot carrying weight easily again.

Arlene, you're an inspiration. I need you to call me from your cell phone and say:

I'm in the saddle... where are YOU?

LOL.

Sheaffer, for a moment I thought I had mistyped - it was Redford, not Rafer, so while you are of course on the mark with how it would have been - all civilized and whatnot - you can also guess that with Redford in a stare-down with said turtle, civilized is not what was in Redford's mind. Think Jack and whatever creature he finds most scurrilous. You get the picture. :)

Billie, how right you are. Now I'm picturing Redford staring down a moose.

And picture me shrieking for him to leave that moose alone! :)

Billie - What a relief that it was just an abscess - and Animalintex is really miraculous, isn't it? When I read that you asked Salina if it was time and she ignored you, I totally identified with that. I ask my old, ailing black kitty that almost every day and I do believe that animals will give us a sign when they are ready to go. It's just that they are our guardian angels and we don't want to lose them. I'm so glad that Salina is feeling better.

Victoria, I'm glad someone relates to me asking that question. It felt sort of morbid to write it, but I am so worried that when the time comes, I won't see it, I think I go overboard in the opposite direction, asking if she seems the least bit off.

I think too it's me preparing myself little by little. Each time I ask her I have to be ready to hear a "yes." And that gets me a little closer to the point of acceptance when it eventually IS time.
