the cowboy breaks in the bear

Of course as soon as I managed to get the camera, set it to video, and hit the record button, things were winding down. At one point Dickens had The Bear lunging like a pro!

At the end of the day, they're getting to be pals:

Wonderful picture of them though even without the video!

I don't think they could be any cuter. They look like they're having lots of fun together.

Billie, that pup is growing by the minute! And he has a good, strong bark...

Matthew, the video takes a moment to load - even though it's so short!

Arlene, Dickens is the only feline not blown away by Bear. Although the rest are slowly getting used to him. I guess Dickens has wrangled donkeys - how bad can a pup really be? :)

Sheaffer, he has nearly doubled in size since he came home with us. The big bark is Kyra Corgi - on the deck supervising everything. Bear still sounds like a pip-squeak!

I think I need to show this to our Alice. She had a moment squaring up to my mother in law's dog when she could have won and she bottled it. He rules now when he comes visiting. They both look great and you can read their body language very clearly on that video clip.

Maire, there was one longer clip after this one where Bear was lunging around and then took the opportunity to dash in and take a nip at the end of Dickens' tail.

Dickens rolled him, smacked him, and Bear went out of the "circle" to give Dickens a much wider berth. I wish the other cats were as savvy as Dickens is about 1) not running and 2) not getting overly aggressive. He manages to find the perfect balance which de-escalates the wild puppy play and allows for some actual companionship to build.

Moomintroll doesn't run, but he actually chases Bear, which works in the moment - until he stops and then Bear thinks it's HIS turn to chase back. I did see one episode of Bear and Moomin lying beside one another yesterday, so... progress. But slow compared to Dickens' method.
