I realized this morning that I generally take August off from blogging - it seems to be a busy time and the days roll past before I can even blink.
All the years of getting ready for school to start, whether it be grade school, high school, or college, have imprinted me with the idea that August is a time for preparing, for organizing, for getting ready for the autumn season.
This year I am finding myself organizing all over the house and in the barn, trying to maintain the pastures, which are probably the most verdant and in need of management than they have been the entire time we've lived here, and incorporating a new pup into the family. (he is sleeping by my feet on Kyra's folded comforter and just did a little yip in his sleep - either he's dreaming or he knows I'm writing about him!)
Every time I finish one little project something else shoves front and center.
Prioritization isn't really working for me right now - everything on my plate feels important and satisfying, and I don't WANT to put anything at the bottom of the list.
This is one of those things that qualifies as a "good problem" to have.
I'm not going to go on one of my "official hiatuses" here, but if you come to visit and there is no new post, think of the calendar as one of those water slide things people set up in the yard. It was the beginning of the week and I was going to post, but hit that slick surface of things to do and wheeeeee! it's the end of the week and time to walk back to the top of the slide and take another turn for the weekend.
And enjoy the end of summer. I think many of us are more than ready for the fall this year.

Happy to know I'm not the only one with prioritization issues these days...
No need to fret - revel in the fullness of the season (and I shall take my own advice)
Namaste
Boy a water slide sounds like fun right now. . .
Exactly, V - it's the fullness of season and time to revel. :)
Matthew, it's interesting that I chose that image, since the actual water slide thing has never really appealed to me at all. I guess what it says is that I'm not really thrilled that my days are sliding by!
I am more a fan of the "still waters run deep" image, along with diving deep into water that gets cooler the deeper one goes.
Wouldn't it be great to have an old-fashioned, clean, swimming hole in our back yard?
We've been running around here like chickens without heads too. There is so much to get done before the cooler weather sets in. So much to do so little time to do it in. One day at a time I guess.
I'd like a swimming hole too, in the form of a built in swimming pool. Covered and surrounded with glass so we could use it for all the seasons. I'm just not a big fan of swimming with critters I can't see in lakes, oceans, bays etc...
Arlene, among the many things on my wish list is an Endless Pool. They very helpfully sent me a new flyer this week, showing a lovely painting of a man swimming in his crystal-clear pool with gorgeous pumpkins sitting alongside the edge, all overlooking a huge lake.
The marketing worked perfectly - or would have if I had a bigger bank account. :) Can't you just see me swimming in October, pumpkins overseeing my exercise routine?
Love the imagery of the water slide! As for prioritizing, I'm avoiding the concept but secretly patting myself on the back as I complete one of the things on my non-existent list.
Greta, at some point I think we just need to do the thing that's in front of us and feel joy in the doing. That's my mantra most days but often enough I get caught up in the fact that my family members don't usually see the same things that need doing... and I want some company on my path around here. :)
Yes a pool or swimming hole sounds quite appealing.
My favorite place to swim in my youth was a rock quarry near the Eno river where we used to swing on a rope out over the water and leap into the air. . .
When I was growing up there was a place in Haw River I swam sometimes when I visited family friends. It was a creek or stream that made an almost perfectly round and fairly deep "pool" - we swam and dove for clay along the edges, which was white and amazing to make things out of.
I identify with the business about prioritizing, Billie. Can't seem to do it. Everything must be done simultaneously and instantaneously.
Well-deserved pat on the back, Greta.
Peggy, I loved how you put that alternate life opportunity at the top of your list recently... when synchronicity arrives, go for it!
