much cooler monday

This morning it was much cooler than it has been the last few days, and because there's a slight breeze and alternating cloud cover and sunshine, it feels very much like an early autumn day.

All the horses and the donkeys were noticeably more chipper. Keil Bay chased the geldings out of the stalls while I was making the breakfast tubs, and that kept him busy enough that he didn't stand and bang with impatience at my slowness.

The donkeys rolled the round bale right off the pallets and then Redford proceeded to climb on top. We nipped that little activity in the bud, as I am paranoid about little donkey legs getting hung up in the pallets.

The pony had an actual Jungian scarab beetle in his water bucket, which I admired, carefully dumped, and then it just disappeared. That is probably part of the synchronicity of the sighting, but I had hoped to get a photo.

I'm not sure what is going on with our weather and the season, but I find it interesting that the day after summer solstice feels like fall!

Billie, we donkeys love being in an elevated position. At our other place I had a soapbox upon which I placed my front feet. It made it much easier to critique the passing scene. One of the woman's donkey volumes advises giving us our own footstool "because it makes them feel important". Well. We don't need a footstool to know our importance but it is pleasant to revel in standing on the high ground, moral and otherwise.

Your donkeys are a never-ending source of hilarious antics. I'm happy to hear that you are cooling off. Now if our weather (constant rain,it has rained 17 days out of 23)would just cooperate I would be thrilled.

I can't believe how much rain you're having up there!

Hope the trend shifts soon.

Sheaffer, we have a platform that the donkeys love to get up on, and now and then one or both will get up and watch the goings-on in the arena, like judges.

As I type, the young bucks are right outside in the back yard, eating grass amidst the trampoline, the full Corgi pool, a stump with various wood-chopping tools embedded into it, and a low-hanging wind chime that can be walked through for the most lovely sound effects.

Thus far we have had no jumping donkeys, but Redford enjoys running under the trampoline and bursting out the other side.
