I have not been a daily reader, but periodically loved getting a hit of someone so to the point and honest in her reporting about bad horsemanship and bad horsekeeping practices. Sometimes it feels good to hear someone say what really needs to be said in a situation.
Go read THIS POST for a wonderful list of things she hopes folks have learned from reading the Fugly blog over the years. It should be printed out and posted on every horseowner's wall.
Bummer...
ReplyDeleteFor years Cathy has courageously fought to protect horses and generously shared her wealth of horse knowledge. Her blog is a shining example of using the power of the internet for good :)
I wish her the all the best.
Agreed, on all counts!
ReplyDeletebillie - we will miss her intelligence, acerbic wit and great common sense. Perhaps you should buy the blog...?
ReplyDeleteSheaffer, if I had $7000 lying around I probably would! I think there should be a "Fugly collective" who buy it together and work together to keep it going. Dividing the work between more than just one person.
ReplyDeletereally? i say good riddance to her and her minions. she may have started with good intentions, but she turned into a loudmouthed bully. i stopped reading her a long time ago when it became less about "education" and more about shock value. i never found it particularly informative, but at least it was mildly amusing until it took a turn and became an all-out bitch-fest. i won't miss it.
ReplyDeletej, in some ways I do not disagree with your assessment, but otoh, I think sometimes a loud, obnoxious voice gets more attention than the quieter, more reasoned one.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like that's what happened with Fugly - and attracted all the followers and comments. Which is one reason I wonder if anyone else could pull it off at this point - her blog "voice" is very much part of what attracts folks to the issues and I don't know if anyone else can write with that particular mixture of humor, sarcasm, and intensity.
I can approach it when in a fit of fury over animal maltreatment, but that's not my normal way of viewing the world. I do note that when I get surly I get more blog hits.
But I get more comments when I write the very personal, tuned in to my horses, zen posts. It's an interesting split that I often wonder about as I write here.
