back on the hill just in time for the full/blue moon

I'm home again after a nice, productive, magical writing retreat, and now have to make that flying leap from living with no responsibility except to my characters back to the very full life with a big family, a small mountain of laundry, and a SCHEDULE. (it's the lack of schedule on writing retreat that lends to such amazing productivity)

It was great to get home and see cats, dogs, horses, donkeys, teens (one who has now completed his driving education course in full and is awaiting one document before getting his driving permit) and husband. We were all supposed to go see the Harry Potter movie tonight but I sent them on without me, as I started feeling like I just needed to lie down on my own bed and relax for awhile tonight - the real return to daily routines begins tomorrow morning, and I want to be well-rested as I make that leap.

I have a few photos to share but at the moment am too lazy to go unpack the camera cord, so I'll save them for tomorrow.

Savoring the full moon (it really does look blue right now) and looking forward to a quiet Thanksgiving with the entire November Hill gang.

  1. It's always nice to get away for a few days but I find it more comforting to be at home. This must be an exciting time for your son,for me though, I always dreaded when they started driving.

  2. Arlene, there is no sleep quite so sweet as that in my own bed with Moomintroll sharing my pillow and purring in my ear all night. :)

Fortunately, my son is not chomping at the bit (ha!) to get behind the wheel - he seems happy to have something new to learn that will eventually give him some mobility, but like most of the homeschoolers we know, seems fine with taking his time in things like this - it's not such a rite of passage as it is for regularly schooled teens.

I will say I'm glad it was the driving instructor and not me who took him to Interstate 40 and got him going 65 mph for the first time!!

  3. That moon is very beautiful over here too. Welcome back to your schedules.

  4. Billie, as the Hobbits say "home again, home again, tiddly pom", which seems to be the ultimate expression of what you are experiencing. There really is no place like it, especially one's own cosy bed. Be sure to have the traditional Hobbit second breakfast and elevensies to fully savour the experience.

  5. Maire, fun to think of the moon shining over all of us so beautifully. Last night's waning moon was gorgeous too.

  7. the moon has been amazing and, despite the cold, my horses have been wanting to stay out the last few nights under it :-)

glad the retreat was so productive! but i do know how difficult it can be to psyche yourself up for the responsibility/routine when you've had some time off :-\ hope it's not too stressful getting back on schedule!

  8. thanks, j - not too stressful thus far, as I have been mowing/mulching/harrowing the front field and I adore doing that chore - especially with the geldings galloping around me as I do it - they took full opportunity to let me be the big red monster on wheels and they had to stay away from me (and yet they couldn't quite resist the front field even though they had the back wide open with hay!
