The frozen yogurt I am enjoying today got me thinking, and I did some online searching. I've adapted a recipe I found which looks like it might be a nice, cool treat for the horses and donkeys on a hot summer day. I'll report when I try this out, or if anyone tries it first, let us know!
1 cup carrot juice
1/2 cup apple juice
carrot shreds
apple diced into small cubes
Mix the above and put in the container of choice. Ice cube trays, paper cups (you can peel them off for serving), or popsicle molds would all work. Slice a few carrots into uniform stick-like pieces (matching length to your containers) and use them for the popsicle sticks!
Freeze and serve.

Leave it to you to come up with a ice lollie treat for your equines. The recipe sounds great but I love the idea of carrots for the popsicle sticks. Genius!
I'm afraid if my husband saw me making popsicles for the horses he would think I'd really gone round the bend. I might give it a try anyway.
Deborah, I'll try - right now it is so humid and hot and sweaty I've not had the camera out at all, but maybe daughter will help me out!
Arlene, the gone round the bend thing is not really an issue here - I established that early on and nothing surprises my husband, especially when it comes to the me and the horses!
This recipe is of course the most traditional of "flavors" - but I am sure one could get more creative with different juices and even mixing in things like mint leaves, etc.
Keil Bay tends to be a traditionalist when it comes to treats, so we'll see if he thinks this is some new way I've devised to medicate him or if it indeed turns out to be something he likes.
Hmmmm... sounds delicious and refreshing. Now, how to transport to the barn?!
V, good point, if your barn is not right in your back yard like mine is! If they have to be transported, I'd probably make them in the paper cups or ice trays and put those in a cooler of ice. Then at the barn you can just take them out and peel/pop the treats and serve.
Billie, the woman is contemplating making the above treats but I am certain she Herself will consume them all post-haste.
