there is a birthday boy in the building

(okay, not exactly IN the building)

I have not forgotten the young donkey whose very name invokes fame and presence and whose personality matches that perfectly!

His name is Redford and he is affectionately known (by me) as Redbug. Compared to the serious and quite thoughtful Rafer Johnson, Redford is a firecracker. A spitfire. And we knew this the first day he arrived when he sailed not once, not twice, but three times over a stall wall to be with his brother-in-arms Rafer, sporting a leg cast and needing the company of another young donkey.

The party will be on Sunday, so stay tuned for photos and celebration!

Meanwhile, happy birthday, Redford. Two years old! And at least two million smiles you have brought to us since your arrival at November Hill.

  1. Happy birthday Redford!

Wishing you sunshine on your back, friends to play with, nice people to pander to your every need and bucketloads of food.

    Your friend, Dougie

  3. A birthday boy! He looks quite ready to get the festivities underway - I'm sure they will include contact sports. I cannot believe it's been two years since he arrived like a long-eared tornado in your midst. Please wish him the warmest birthday donkey wishes from Jack and self and the others.

  5. Thanks for the birthday wishes for Redford - he received a special birthday tub this afternoon courtesy of my daughter, and the entire herd celebrated with him in the sunshine, nearly dry ground, and balmy temperature.

My son went out to give him a hug and found Keil Bay lying down for a nap in the back field with Redford standing by as guardian. Even on his birthday he did his job. :)

Sunday I'll make some treats and we will come up with something silly to do for fun.

  6. Happy birthday, Redford. You're a good boy. And you and all the family at November Hill have helped remind this writer that all animals - not just dogs and cats - are are wonderful, vital part of the lives of us humans.

  8. Kyle, thank you. I sometimes forget that not everyone has horses and donkeys in their midst! I'm happy to share the treasure here.

  9. Thanks, Michelle. He is the baby equine, but oh so big in heart and spirit.

  10. Happy Birthday Redford! (and I wouldn't turn my back if I were you, or he *would* be in the building?) He looks like a lap donkey to me. :)

  11. I'd invite both donkey boys in except it would break Salina's heart if she couldn't come too! She's welcome, but I'm not sure an 1150 lb. horse would work in the living room. :)
