the snowy day

Rafer Johnson was the first to actually take a stroll in the snow, but he was also the first one back to the barn! His sojourn as a snow donkey was fairly brief!

The snow queen! Once she had breakfast this morning she took a walk in the snow too. First thing she did was stick her face in it!

Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat nor gloom of night stays these Couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds!

Unfortunately, the stunning head and neck shot of Keil Bay was lost to a memory stick corruption. Something similar has happened every time it has snowed - and every time I lose the Keil Bay photo. There's something about a red bay against the white that I would love to capture - maybe later today I'll get another shot.

The pony had ice beads in forelock and eyelashes, and of course there is no photo of that either! But he looked quite the dashing Shetland.

Cody had been out too but didn't have the beads!

It's sleeting right now. Hoping this ends soon so we can enjoy the white stuff a little before it melts - probably Tuesday unless it warms back up sooner than forecast.

It's too bad about the pictures. I love horses in the snow. Enjoy your snow while you have it, I don't think ours will ever melt. It's 3 degrees this morning and going up to 19. Woohoo, a heat wave.

Stay warm - we have lows at 11, 13, and 17 forecast for the next 3 nights. Hopefully after that we are back to our usual winter weather.

The geldings had snow racing earlier, and Salina was spotted monitoring neighborhood activity - she's my perfect equine partner when it comes to that... :)

Okay I'm going to have to come clean. I am In love with the donkeys. LOVE. Head over heels.

I'm sitting here mooning over Rafer thinking he and Mr. Chips would have totally hit it off.

I hope the weather lets you out soon!

Kate, I know! We're all dealing with the elements, in one form or another. I'm not quite ready for spring, but for sunshine and NO MUD.

Jane, Rafer Johnson is a sweet pea, that's for sure. He is not one for rebel-rousing, as Redford is, but we're lucky to have both of them. The solemn love bug and the wild red bug.

Sorry you lost your pic of Keil Bay. I hate when cameras don't cooperate.

Thanks, Mikael. Today the sun is out so any shot I take will be utterly different - but I have the other one in my personal slide show.. :)

Too bad you lost the photos. I bet they were beautiful! Hope you get another shot before the snow melts.

So far, no new photos of the Big Bay in snow, but one of these days I'll get one!

Ohhhh Billie, how clever of Rafer to recognize the inherent dangers of snow and ice. I'm pleased that the rest of the crew are enjoying it but beg of them to be careful - the woman says I over-exagerate but I think not. Ice beads on eyelashes and next thing you're snow blind and entombed like the Ice Man they found in Europe. Rafer has the wisdom of his species - Redford? well, I'm not quite sure...Stay warm and dry my friends. In dust we trust - in snow? NO.

Sheaffer, by now (all 3 days of it, which must sound ridiculous to you!) even Rafer Johnson is out marching around in the white stuff as though he were born to it.

Redford has all the dashing enthusiasm and joie de vivre a donkey could possibly hold in that small body - I believe he has some wisdom in there but he keeps it close to his chest while he flits about and engages horses many times his size in sparring matches, as you have seen.

LOL - the Ice Pony! In his case the desire to eat wins over anything - shavings bags, umbrellas, snow and ice, hard rain. That pony will get to his grass or hay No Matter What.
