an alternative for classical riding enthusiasts

I just discovered this today, and would like to offer it as an alternative to explore if you're interested in riding and training classically:

Traditional Horsemanship

Check it out. It's new and still getting organized, but has a lot of potential, especially for those of us devoted to learning and growing, and interested in humane certification and competition.

  1. I'm glad you found this. It seems the best alternative to the standard dressage practices that are prevalent today. I'm hoping that this association takes off and has a good following in the future. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this alternative became the norm. Those of us who don't care about ribbons but simply want to do the best with the horse we have could certainly benefit from a program like this.

  2. I love the dressage tests and the versatility tests - it's much more well-rounded and imo focuses on developing a horse and rider that can get out of the arena and actually ride in the "real world."

  3. 'traditional horsemanship.' that's the term i always end up using when people ask me what i do. i can't really say i do 'regular' dressage or hunter/jumpers, or true field hunting, certainly not eventing... so what else is there? we do versatility!

i love this idea. this is very similar to the organization i was imagining to fill that void between solitary backyard riding and the increasingly ridiculous showing world. i hope it catches on!
