happy birthday to our dear friend sheaffer!

Dear Sheaffer,

We tried our best to come but they said it was too far.

So we decided to have our own little party in your honor.

First I had some hay.

Then Redford tried to play Pin The Tail on Rafer Johnson.

Then (Redford here!) we ate some grass. See how good we are at dodging the buttercups?

And then I went over to say my own special Happy Birthday to my favorite uncle!

I (Rafer Johnson back again) send you a tip of the ear

and a roll in the dust, and my very best donkey wishes for your birthday!

Then she made us pose for a birthday portrait in your honor.

Happy Birthday, Sheaffer!! We wish we were ALL there to celebrate with you!

Love,
Rafer Johnson, Redford, and the whole November Hill Menagerie

  2. Here, here! We agree - donkey parties are tons of fun. I'm sure Sheaffer will have a full report on his event of the season over at his place very soon.

  3. Billie, what a perfect surprise at the end of a perfect day! I loved the signage - those two nephews of mine are very talented calligraphers. It was a remarkable event with perfect weather and a large turnout. I even got two stud muffins - which is two more than I have had in months. Your photos had the woman and self chuckling and the last one is extraordinary. Those boys are move star handsome. Thank you my dear friends for thinking of me on the big day.

    Yours with the greastest affection,
    Sheaffer

  5. Oh Billie! What a wonderful Sheaffer Party! Ours consisted of Herself sipping the agave-infused lemon squash, I trying to get my hat to stay on in the rather stiff breeze, while munching Mrs Pasture's Cookies. I shared some with the Pony in Sheaffer's honor. We must declare it an International Holiday next year!
    Cheers!

  7. The birthday portrait of the two of you is wonderful!... looks like you had a fun day in honour of Sheaffer's party...

I tipped a glass of white wine at my end of the country to toast the event....sadly I'm just too far away.....

  8. The donkey portrait is one of those images that I had a sort of sense as I was taking pictures that it was going to be good - but when I opened the file on my desktop and saw it, I gasped. :) I love it! Part of the fun with the camera.

Thanks to Sheaffer I got it out again!
