first sightings of the season

A purple butterfly.

A carpenter bee.

New leaves on the butterfly bushes, and leafing out in a number of plants along the labyrinth path.

Flies!

Fly predators!

A wasp.

Even with a cool spell rolling in later this week, it seems that spring is near.

  1. Billie, please keep reporting on the signs of spring. I am living entirely vicariously through your eyes. We cannot bathe in our water trough - it's still frozen solid. Today it snowed sideways into my ears. No flies, though. Oh, and I'm intrigued with the idea of all those paths you've made.

  2. Oh dear, Sheaffer - snowing sideways! I'll keep my eyes and ears open. Right now we have night insect noises coming through the open windows.

You would love strolling my paths, I think. I have several sites for some appropriate statuary, but I have to find it first!

  3. I did see a fly over the weekend and a few lady bugs. I can't wait to start planting and working in the garden again.
We were just discussing fly predators the other day. Must get them ordered soon.

  4. Arlene, we have ladybugs inside but I forgot about them!

Our fly predators are set to arrive starting at the end of this month, but the ones I'm seeing now are already here, presumably from 3 years of using them. I increased the amount and the frequency last year, and went longer, and it seems to have been a good plan.
