On this cold day, I fretted over icy troughs, hauled many buckets of hot water from the house, adjusted blankets multiple times, fed a warm lunch to the herd in the event they didn't have enough hay (we now have a new round bale and an extra coming tomorrow), fussed at my children when I felt I was doing all the work (I wasn't), and got very upset when a neighbor's ATV cut a rut in the lane.
However, there was a very bright and warm spot that made all the rest of my day better, and this was it:
I immediately thought" cute as two bugs in a rug" when I saw that photo. Don't think I've ever thought that before. I am glad that you are worrying about your gang as much as I'm worrying about mine. It's 4 degrees at 8 pm here, going down to 0 later tonight. I just got back from checking water and putting more hay in the barn and it actually didn't feel that cold. Everything is very crisp and the sound of my feet walking in the snow was very clear and distinct.
ReplyDeleteBillie, what a magnificent photo of two young donkey gentlemen soaking up the sun! They are so composed, limbs carefully folded under like cats. And perfectly aligned with each other. It makes me very proud of the younger generation when I see such well brought up youngsters.
ReplyDeleteOMG .. RaferJ and Redford ...
ReplyDeleteThey are like yummy caramels!
I just want to eat them up ... (nom-nom-nom!)
Just like two little bunnies, with their legs tucked under them for warmth. Absolutely adorable.
ReplyDeleteVictoria, that's one thing I do love about the extreme cold. There is a crisp quality to the air and sound sharpens. The mind clears. It's quite intoxicating if one can let go of the frustrations and enjoy it. I wasn't so successful at that today, and got caught up in fretting, but the donkey boys brought me back to focus.
ReplyDeleteSheaffer, aren't they handsome? I confess I was thinking that it would be a stunning portrait indeed to have you and Jack standing to either side - the different stages in the life of donkeys. We consider ourselves lucky indeed to know so many fine ones.
ReplyDeleteMitMoi, wouldn't they be cute as chocolates? I got some in my stocking that were seals with whiskers. Donkey chocolates would be quite perfect in this house!
ReplyDeleteLinda, they are like bunnies... and cats... and nesting the way they do in the hay, I kept thinking of them laying little donkey eggs that would hatch out to more baby donkeys!
ReplyDeleteBaby animals all tend to be quite cute, but I have to say, baby donkeys are like something out of a storybook.
they are just the sweetest things! that picture definitely gave me a smile today. i'm starting to feel like our farm could benefit from the presence of some long-eared equids :-) if they hatch any donkey-bunny eggs, i want one!
ReplyDeletebut remember... donkeys are like horses - you can't have just one!!
ReplyDeleteAdorable picture of those two soaking up the sun.
ReplyDeleteWe're warmer today at about 38 degrees, but now it's gray again and we have rain off and on.
ReplyDeleteGlad the single digits are gone - wishing for the sunshine!

ReplyDeleteLOL - thanks, Arlene. :)
ReplyDeleteThose two are just TOO cute for words! I want a donkey!
ReplyDeleteThere is never a moment without a smile here, that's for sure. :)
ReplyDeleteChocolate donkeys tucked into an Easter basket of grass.
ReplyDeleteLovely imagery. And such a great way to forget your troubles seeing those two. :)
